Independent record store Armadillo Music located in beautiful downtown Davis has been organizing a Sunday record swap every six months in an art gallery in the downtown area. Recently they made the bold move to relocate and expand the record swap from around a dozen or so dealers in a fairly small room to the much larger senior center located at 646 A street and what a success it turned out to be. By my own estimate there was at least a 300-400% increase in punters plus a doubling or tripling of dealers selling mostly vinyl. Dealer entry was at 8am and we were expecting that by midday things would be winding down, but at 3pm the joint was still heaving and people just didn’t want to leave. I believe the next show is in February 2013, but contact the store for more details at (530) 758 8058. Entry is free – you can’t beat that! Although I didn’t catch a glimpse of it, rumor has it that an original copy of the mega rare local soul-bluesman’s John Hartsman “Music Of My Heart” was up for grabs. The Sacramento area seems to be about the only place that this fantastic 1976 2LP ever turns up as it was recorded here and pressed in very limited numbers. I know of one lucky crate digger who has found one of these at a yard sale for the princely sum of one dollar and flipped it via ebay for a whopping $5300!
