We have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Audio Desk Systeme which arrived just before the weekend. Four years in development, this machine Ultrasonically cleans both sides of an LP at the same time. So far we have cleaned four LPs and the results are exceeding our expectations. First in the fully automatic machine was Columbia ML 5143: Dvorak’s “American” quartet featuring Boris Kroyt, Viola; Alexander Schneider, Violin; Joseph Roisman, Violin And Mischa Schneider, Cell. A rare 6 eye mono original that rarely turns up, this particular copy came from a recent record collection I purchased and was in my “iffy” pile of LPs that probably wouldn’t make it to the site. It had a cloudy glazed look to the grooves which is usually a good indication of surface noise which after spot checking was confirmed. After cleaning, the surface had a completely different look, the original lustre of the vinyl had returned and it played through both side without surface noise. An auspicious start. We will report back soon after more extensive use. Click on the picture below to see a full-size close-up shot.
