I have just returned from a day trip to McCloud, a small California village that sits in the shadow of Mount Shasta. McCloud lies around 15 miles or so off Interstate 5 about an hour north of Redding. Once a thriving logging town, this great tourist spot is home to the outstanding Mushroom, Music and Wine Fair at the end of May and the annual Lumberjack Festival in July. Definitely worth a detour off the Interstate to eat is The White Mountain Fountain restaurant featuring the outstanding ‘Not The Dolly Varden’ veggie sandwich and killer French fries among other great items. Anyway, after a long day we returned with but a couple of hundred LPs which are mostly now up on site, and some fond memories of this undiscovered gem in the middle of the forest.
